Custom Laser Engrave Your Photos
The customer supplies the image to be engraved, either digital or printed on Glossy photo paper, no textured paper as the texture would be picked up when the image is scanned.
The engraved image will have no color, but rather look like a black and white image. Color images are converted to an eight-bit bitmap creating shades of gray from white to black in 256 steps. In the engraved image, the surface represents the lightest shade and black being engraved the deepest areas producing a full range of shades from white to black. If supplying your own wood, species with a close, even grain work the best, Alder, Cherry and maple work well. Species like Oak have open pores and areas harder and softer which will engrave to different depths causing ridges throughout the engraving. Some find the ridges distracting while others like the ridges, it's all in your personal taste and the subject mater. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, as the saying goes...
